Police launch anti-terrorism hotline

2022-06-07 16:49

The police force has launched a hotline for the city’s residents to inform anonymously on anyone they suspected to be involved in terrorist activities or to report violence-related crimes.

The new hotline - Counter-terrorism Reporting Hotline 63-666-999 will replace the existing Anti-violence Hotline, which was established in the midst of the 2019 social unrest.

“Apart from violent acts, the public may also report suspected terrorism-related activities around them, in particular extremist plots, via this upgraded hotline,” the police said in a statement published on Tuesday.

“Reporting such acts without delay will prevent and combat extremist activities more effectively. The public will also be able to protect themselves, their relatives and friends.”

The statement also noted that the force is planning to pay rewards to those who provide reliable terrorism-related information.

“Regardless of the means for reporting, if the information provided by the public is of crucial assistance to detection of terrorism-related crimes, the force’s Inter-departmental Counter-Terrorism Unit will, upon completion of prosecution of offenses, assess and determine the reward amounts under a stringent mechanism,” it wrote.
